Prescription Drug Card to compliment Health Savings Accounts (HSA)
Prescription drugs are a vital component of health care in preventing and treating illness and helping to avoid more costly medical problems. Retail prescription prices increased an average of 8.3% a year from 1994 to 2004 (from an average of $28.67 to $63.59), more than triple the average annual inflation rate of 2.5%. With the rising cost of prescriptions, many PPO and HMO plans are continually raising premiums, deductibles, and copays in order to remain profitable. These increases have led to a higher demand for HSA type plans.

As a HSA insurance provider - you have three core objectives:
- Increase premium dollars through client acquisition
- Payout less claims
- Continue to provide quality healthcare solutions and service

As an HSA insurance provider you should be concerned about the cost of medications that your clients are paying. Expensive medications lock people into their PPO / HMO plans. Whereas, a HSA with our Prescription Card make it medically and financially possible for the client to switch to an HSA plan. There are many benefits to both the client and your insurance company will see by adding the card to your plan -
- The card will help the agent sell the deal when comparing to other plans. The percent of the population with a prescription drugs expense in 2002 was 61% (for those under age of 65). An HSA plan by itself does NOTHING to offset the skyrocketing cost of medication.
- Our drug card provides equal discounts on non-formulary drugs without triggering a claim to the insurance company.
- It will take the client longer to reach their deductible using the Prescription Drug Card thus saving the insurance company money. (See Sample Client Comparison)
Prescription Needs' pharmacy network allows HSA's to offer a prescription drug benefit to their customers at minimal cost and little to no administration. In most cases the cost of medication is 30%-80% lower than retail. (See Price Comparison Chart)
