Read letter from Congressman Bernie Sanders
Read letter from Illinois Governor Rod R. Blagojevich
The following is a list of cities and states that have moved forward in reimporting prescription drugs from Canada.
Illinois

Governor Rod Blagojevich announced in September that he had asked his states' health agency to examine options for re-importing prescription drugs. Gov. Blagojevich has also created a Web site where consumers can fill out an online petition. The petition urges Congress and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to allow Americans to buy prescription drugs from Canada.
Minnesota

Govern Tim Pawlenty has unveiled plans to develop a website to facilitate the purchase of personal use prescription drugs from Canadian pharmacies; pursue purchase by the State of Minnesota of foreign made, FDA-approved prescription drugs to be made available to Minnesotans; provide incentives for state employees to purchase prescription drugs directly; aggressively pursue federal action to eliminate barriers to widespread use of imported, safe prescription drugs; and convene a Governors' Prescription Drug Summit later this year involving governors interested in importation issues.
The Attorney General of Minnesota issued a report denouncing the pharmaceutical industry's political influence and announced legal action against GlaxoSmithKline, the world's second largest drug manufacturer, to compel the company to produce documents in connection with his office's ongoing investigation into the company's cutoff of Canadian pharmacies selling to American consumers.
West Virginia

Governor Bob Wise has directed his staff to find ways to cover Canadian prescription drugs with state insurance. Governor Wise was quoted as saying, "When we have seniors who must decide whether to eat or buy prescription drugs because the drugs cost so much, it's no longer simply a political or economic issue. This is getting to be a moral issue"
Iowa

Governor Tom Vilsack has asked his aides to draft plans for state health insurance programs to buy medicines from Canadian suppliers.
Ohio and Michigan

Both states are considering measures to import drugs from Canada.
Vermont and Maine

Both states have passed measures to urge GlaxoSmithKline to discontinue its cutoff of Canadian pharmacies selling mail-order prescription drugs to their states' residents.
Wisconsin

Governor Doyle of Wisconsin announced that officials plan to meet next week with Canadian pharmacies about reimporting drugs from Canada.
Burlington, VT

The City Council in Burlington adopted a resolution giving the mayor's administration until December to develop recommendations on drug imports for city employees.
Boston, MA

Mayor Thomas M. Menino announced that he is looking into buying Canadian prescription drugs for Boston city workers and would "very seriously" consider challenging the FDA if the ban on imports is not lifted.
Springfield, MA

Mayor Michael Albano was the first Mayor in the country to begin reimbursing his city employees for prescription drugs purchased from Canada. Springfield's program already has more than 800 of the city's 9,000 workers and retirees covered under its prescription drug insurance plan. Employees who opt to order prescription drugs through CanaRx Inc., a mail order program, save 20 to 80 percent on maintenance prescription drugs because of the low cost of the medicines in Canada.
New York City

In New York City, the administration of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has announced own plans to look into the option for the city's health department and hospitals.
Cambridge, Wooster, and Somerville, MA

All of these cities are exploring options on buying prescription drugs from Canada.
